Are you planning to upgrade to Vista?

Yes. It's cool and I want it on my computer.

No. I'm worried that it will be a hassle.

Maybe. I don't know if it's worth the cost and trouble.
21%

I'd rather buy a Mac.

Actually makes a lot of sense. A lot, if not most people, are typing away
on some old POS that they have somehow got Win2k or maybe XP to work on.
Heck they might still be on Win98.

Like an old automobile you can limp along many years with patches, etc. but
there comes a time when you have to replace the old girl. Hurts but in a
while you are all smiles with the new shiny one. Neighbours are pissed off
tho.

I suspect everyone on this board crying the blues has an old piece of junk
they are trying to get the fancy new op system to run on.

Time for a new box. Vista needs one and Vista don't care if you can't run
it on your old one. Nobody cares.

You have to get off your ass and support the economy. Chances are you
already have a new monitor. For less than $1000 bucks you can have a
machine good for 10 years. Bill gets to eat, HP people get to eat. You get
to enjoy Vista.

Life is good eh?

Nice summary!

I'm sure the first Billion Bill made could make him eat for the rest of his
life. ;)

One could always throw a new more powerful motor into the "old girl" and
she's good to go for some time to come. That's what installing GNU/Linux
offers Windoze users with older hardware.

Cheers.

Yeah, but imagine you finally give in and buy that new car, only to find
they put the steering wheel on the other side, and switched the gas and
brake pedals around, and you had to give the car confirmation every time you
want to open a door or window, or start the ignition. Then, above all, all
the stuff you used to put in the trunk of your old heap, can no longer be
put in the trunk of your shiny new toy. You can't play the same cassettes
you played in your old car radio for the last 20 years in your new car,
because they are not compatible - you need to go out and buy all new CD's to
hear the music you want in your new car.

THAT is what Vista is!

I HAVE a choice. I build my own machines and will stick with XP as long as
I can. I built a new rig about 6 months ago --

Pentium Extreme 3.73 GHz
4GB DDR2 667 RAM
2 x 750GB SATAII drives
Plextor PX-760A 18X DVD +/- R/RW 8X D/L 48X CD
Plextor PX-755SA SATA 16X DVD +/- R/RW 8X D/L 48X CD
SB X-Fi Platinum
NVidia GeForce 7800 256MB DVI
Dell 19 Inch Ultra Sharp Flat Panel Monitor
Canopus ADVC Digital Video Capture card
2 firewire
8 USB-2
Stanby floppy drive
2GB USB drive
All on a Intel 975X board
Oki Color Laser
HP Inkjet All in One
Logitech Wireless Keyboard / Mouse
Seagate 200GB Firewire external drive (for backups)
PLUS - 4 iPods, Digital SLR Camera, MiniDV Camcorder
Tons of High End software and other goodies just for fun

All works WONDERFULLY with Win XP Home Service Pack 2 - NEVER a crash or
problem.

I tried Vista Ultimate on this machine and it was pure Garbage. Better than
the Betas, but still, none of my printers, sound card, cameras or iPods
worked as they should. Nor did most of the software I already paid so dearly
for.
