Are all Network/Ethernet cards created equal?

I have a three year old desktop pc built by Cyberpower inc. The Network card
is just a PCI 32 BIT 10/100. I was wondering if it could be affecting my
on-line gaming? I play EVE-Online and lately when I'm in a fight everything
is jerky and not smooth ... I'll push a button and it takes seconds to take
effect. I used a new laptop I borrowed and was amazed and the
difference...smooth and quick!
I already have 1G of DDR1 RAM / Powercolor ATI 9800 256 Video / Win XP Pro
I've noticed too general performance is slow, but I'm especially concerned
about my game quality. I've run anti-SPAM / BOT/ Virus / Regis
Cleaners....The only thing I can come up with is perhaps my Network Card may
be too slow??
Any advice will be appreciated!

Hi
A 32bit 10/100 Network card is what is used by almost all computers, so the
card per-se should not be the problem.
What the problem is? It is hard to know without extensive evaluation of the
computer (try an application like 3D Mark to evaluate the gaming capacity of
the hardware, http://www.futuremark.com/download/ ), many variables can
contribute to the problem, and a lot of them are not even related to
Networking.
As far as network is concerned, may be this can Help.
