Are 3Gbit SATA drives backward compatible?

I doubt you'd notice one iota of difference in performance - not even
with the assistance of a stopwatch.

SATA 150 -> 300 is like the ATA100 -> ATA133 ATA133 -> SATA150 - not
worth the difference at all.

Good to know. Especially when you hear people gushing about what a
noticeable speed improvement they see with their new SATA drive. They
probably just bought a new box, upgrading from a 66Mhz bus with a Celeron on
it and think the hard drive made the difference?

Right now at Newegg they have a 250G SATA 3g selling for $100. And a 250GB
ATA100 for $107. Any reason not to buy the SATA?
