archive.pst

i have archived my inbox, sent mail and deleted files from a certain date backward. the files show up on my floder list in outlook 2000, but when I try to access them, i can only see the file name and outllok will not open the .pst file. what have I done wrong, and how can i open the .pst file?? Thanks!

yes, the error message is outlook cannot open the file as it does not have a program associated with it???

You must be trying to double click it.
Read the first reply. You must open it from Outlook.

let me clarify...after going throught he archive process, the archive folder is visible in the folders list of outlook, right above my personal folders. when i go to open the archive folder,instead of seeing all my archived messages, i see only the file name. when i single click the file name, i get the error message. previously, i would not see the file name, when opening the srchive folder...i would see all of the archived messages. thank
!
 
Clarify what produces that error message.
It would seem to me that the archive folder to which you are archiving is
not the one you have listed in your Folder List. See if that is the case.

So, you look in your Folder View pane and see "Archived Folders", with a "+"
to the lift of those words. You single-click the "+" and, instead of
expanding to the list of folders, you receive the message you state? With
all due respect, I don't believe you.
 
the file is in the archive folder found in the outlook inbox folder list. when i open the archive folder in the outlook inbox i only see the file name archieve10103.pst ( i named the folder as I was archiving messages pre 10/01/03). When i click on that i get the error message. thanks
 
well, i am obviously not explaining this correctly...all is correct in that i single click the archive folder with a + and it opens showing one email with contains the attchment of my .pst file. when i try to open that file, i get the error message.
 
Why is there an archive folder in your Inbox? How did you ever manage that?

So, save that .pst attachment to some folder on your hard drive. Then, in
Outlook, click File>Open and browse to that attahcment you saved. It should
then open as a Personal Folders file.
