Archive problems

Hello all:
I am having difficulties archiving my folders. I have read every article
out of help, follow what seem to be very basic instructions however, the file
being created is always empty. Short of actually creating a new folder and
dragging the items I would like it to contain (copying using CTRL + dragging)
the new data file is empty. Auto archive does not seem to create a data file
with anything in it either. I have shutdown and reopened Outlook, Windows
and anything else I can think of. All updates for office 2K3 are installed.
Was working with a friend and a very full mailbox, decided to try this at
home and I am having all the same problems. Any sage advise from anyone out
there will be greatly appreiated.

Thanks,
Barry

The way you describe it, it appears that you try to let Archive create
the output file. I have never used Archive (nor AutoArchive) that way. I
explicitly create an archive PST file, then specify this as the target
file for either Archive or AutoArchive.

Thanks for the reply Pat. I have indeed used other files aside from the
default archive.pst. No matter what the file name, the files are blank.
Trying to open them even via File - Open reveals an empty file with no data.

Barry,

The file name really doesn't matter; what matters is that it is a valid
PST file, and that it does have the PST extension.

You don't get any error during archive? Maybe archive doesn't run at
all? you should see a moving archive icon on the bottom right corner of
the Outlook status bar while archive is running.

Dear Pat:
Yes, I am putting a new name in the space provided in FILE - ARCHIVE or
TOOLS - OPTIONS - OTHER - Move old items to. Either way or anyway I seem to
select a place to archive the file always comes up empty. I have just gone
to a copy paste method, delete the old records and move on thing at the
moment. It's just getting old and tiresome. Thanks for the thoughts and
help.
Barry

Hmmm... no more ideas from here; Archive and AutoArchive has worked for
me fine since Outlook 97.

Anyone else any thoughts on this Archive failure?
