I have an aptiva 2270 that is running windows 98se just
fine. I wanted to install xp home. I formatted the drive
and put the cd in the rom and rebooted. It came up with
the blue screen and had the "press f6 to install 3rd party
scsi drivers..." at the bottom. I do not need that so I
left it alone. That cleared off the screen and when it
should have said something along the lines of "copying
system files" or what ever it says it just sits there.
over 27 hours last time. I swapped cd roms and the cd's
them selves. I added ram, no go. I reinstalled win98 to
try and overwrite the filesystem, no go. I tried the cd in
another machine and it is all working well. Any ideas?
Thanks

I have a similar Aptiva. I checked my particular machine
with IBM when I wanted to upgrade to XP. I learned (that
for whatever reason) the hardware in my Aptiva was not
upgradeable to XP. I got as far as Win2000 and that's it
for that machine.

I located the information for my Aptiva on IBM's website.
It's been awhile, but I remember putting in my machine
model number and being able to locate the info that gave
me the bad news. (Now my husband has the Aptiva and I
have a new HP notebook, so maybe it was good news!)

Good luck!
