I haven't used the Recovery Console in ages, so I don't remember what
information on your system it will affect. I don't think (not very sure at
all) it will affect your documents and music files. I have alot myself. So
if you have a CD or DVD burner (or another hard drive) I would back up that
stuff before using it. Personnally, I back-up my data to another hard drive,
my system has two, every so often. It's too bad you turned off the System
Restore, it would probably fix your problem. My advise, turn it back on once
you get this problem resolved
You may want to check with AOL before doing anything, you might find
additional help there. Plus if you're using 9.0 I believe it has those
"AutoFix" things they advertise all the time (not that I trust them
myself... LOL), that might be helpful to ya. Here's a link to their "Help"
section of their web-site:

Also, have you run scandisk lately? Or Defrag? You might try those,
especially scandisk. To check your disk (hard drive) open My Computer and
right click on your drive. Click Properties. Click the Tools tab. There you
will find an "Error-checking" section and "Defragmentation" section, as well
as the "Backup" section. Click the Check Now... button to run scandisk,
select both the options in the window that pops up and click start. It may
want to restart your system in order to perform its function properly, let
it. After that's done, run the Defrag (which may take a while depending on
the last time you've done this, not many people do and should at least once
a month). See if that helps anything, it can't hurt anything anyway and will
be helpful to your system in the long wrong. If it doesn't seem to help
anything, then attempt to use the Recovery Console. I would try anything and
everything else first though, use the Recovery Console as an absolute last
resort, not knowing what info its going to affect. You may also want to
clear out the internet temp folders, you can do this from Internet Explorer
or from the Control Panel. Click Start, Control Panel, Internet Options, and
in the Temporary Internet files section click Delete Files..., which may
also take some time. That's something else you want to do on a regular
basis.
Depending on which version of XP your using (assuming your using XP since
that's the newsgroup) you can find information about the Recovery Console at

Sorry I couldn't be of more help to ya.
