is there a way in outlook 2003 to apply a custom view to a whole group of
folders at once? i have a user who has a dozen or so folders in his
personal folders and he wants to add the 'to' column to the Messages view
for all of them. i can of course make a custom view and apply it a folder
at a time, but can it be changed on all of them at once?

hmmm, the first one of those is what i was doing. i modified the
messages view to add the 'to' column then applied it through the
define views dialog... it seems to apply to some folders but not all
of them, nor does it seem to apply to new folders.

But the methods described in the second one can be applied to any custom or
existing view, thus applying it to all existing and future folders using
that view.

what i had him do was to copy the messages view and make his own custom one,
then apply that to the folders he wanted to... he is happy for now, at least
its easier than doing the field chooser on every folder in his rather large
personal folder tree. what i was looking to do was to modify the default
messages view so it would apply to all folders that already had selected
that view, this doesn't seem to work as described in the first method...
even in my smaller personal folder tree.

I never said it did, but you should be able to use the methods in the second
link's article to modify the default "Message" view, which will cause it to
apply to all mail folders, since one of the setps in the second article was
to remove all custom views.
