applying share settings to subfolders

An irritation I suffer at moment is the fact that when I change settings in
order for a folder to be accessed and changed across the network these
settings are not applied to the folder's subfolders. It is so frustrating to
have to manually extend these settings to subfolders and then repeatedly do
the same as new folders are added over time.

I believe I remember Windows did not always work like this; that there have
been tick box options in the past where I could specify that the system
should apply the settings to subfolders. Does this point to a problem in
WindowsXP or a problem in my set up please?

TIA ... Greg

Post back if that does not answer your question.

Thank you, I have turned off simple file sharing and will see how I go!
