applications wont stay open

Can anyone help me with this problem. I am running
Windows xp professional. Every time I open an
application it only stays open for a minute and then
disapears. I check the task manager and it doesnot
appear to be running. This is making me too much grief.
I cant even run my virus check. Any help can be sent to
my emai (e-mail address removed). Thank you very much

Check for viruses:

And check for the presence of spyware:
