Applications Refusing to Load - Problems Ensue!

One of our PCs has recently stopped being used. The reason for this was
initially because it refused to load any program that involved the Internet.
We basically assumed this was to do with a LAN issue and left it be for a
bit. Now tonight I go to use it and find that I cannot use any application
without first going into Task Manager and removing a significant amount of
adware, which then comes back and the cycle starts anew. I'm currently
running a chkdsk /r on it but I don't know what that'll accomplish, if
anything. So if anyone knows what's going on with my PC, it'd be appreciated.
