Certain applications that I have, mainly Internet Explorer
and Adobe Acrobat, periodically cause my machine to
shutdown and restart. This usually happens when I try to
resize a window, open a link, or a open a window that has
been minimized. Any idea why this is happening and how to
fix it? It has been going on for a year and a half, but
has recently gotten worse.

Left click "my computer" then properties>advanced>startup and recovery.
Once there, uncheck "automatically reboot". The next time you encounter the
error that is causing your reboot, you should get a blue screen with the
error described. Then take it from there.
