Application hang

I am running WinXP SP2, the following problem occurred while I had SP1, and I
was hoping the upgrade might have fixed it.....

Anytime I open a microsoft app that must access the internet (IE, Win Media
Player, and Outlook-if an email has http) the application sucks up 99% of my
CPU time per the Windows task manager.

I try to close the app and get a Program Not Responding error window.
The following is from the two errors generated in the Event Viewer when it
occured with iexplorer.exe:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Source: Application Hang
Category None
EventID 1001

Fault bucket 126637809.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Source: Application Hang
Category: (101)
Event ID 1002

Hanging application iexplore.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, hang module
hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I opened up my Yahoo Messenger and it had the same type of enevt with the
Ypager.exe.
I downloaded Mozilla Firefox form a different source and it can access the
internet fine on the same computer as all of the failing apps.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Terry

TV,

I have been getting the same error message in Win XP sp1. The "program not
responding" error occurs randomly, in various apps, and in Explorer. My
hangups don't seem to be related to Inet access. I have exhaustively looked
for and removed all adware, spyware, viruses, etc. I have tested the memory
modules and the hard drive. No problems. The memory location "0x00000000" is
also common in Event Viewer, but I was told it's a virtual address, not a
physical location.

I am now assuming that the problem is in the OS, but I don't want to
reinstall Windows. So I tried a Repair from CD. No help. I also suspect that
an automatic upgrade may have caused a glitch, but I have no proof. I'm still
looking for more ideas. These hang-ups are giving me hang-overs.

Tvolz and JHEarcht,

I am getting the same error messages and symptoms on my end. I just rebuilt
my entire machine in hopes to correct this issue. I am all caught up with the
latest updates from MS.

Any Help that MS or anyone can provide would be helpful and appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeff

I too am having the same problem! I've fragged my hard drive several times
and reinstalled all programs and performed all updates to no positive
conclusion. This is becoming a nightmare! I'm spending more time trying to
fix the glitches than enjoying the experiences.

Has anyone made progress on this problem? One thing I can be assured
of is it's not Virus, Adware, Malware or Spyware related. Based on the
number of hits returned on my searches, I think it maybe a much more
common problem than I once thought.

For people having these issues, do we have anything else in common?
Such as version of Virus Protection (McAfee VirusScan 8.0i in my case).

This problem is very frustrating. We just did a rollout of 60 users
and it only happends to 10 or so. Can it be the websites these 10
visit?

I am running Norton System Works 2004 for my virus protection. I think it
may have to do with the firewall that MS installed. I disabled MS's and
installed EZ Firewall from CA. I now receive a lot less of these hung app
issues.

Thanks,
Jeff

Running an HP NC6000 notebook with McAfee 8.0i Virus Scan. Same OS
Build. 1GByte of RAM.

Did you simply disable the Windows Firewall/ ICS "Service"? You state
that you are having fewer "hangs". Does that imply even after you
disable the service (if you did so) that you got the 100% CPU
utilization anomaly?

Thanks!

What I get (when it happens) is the following 3 errors.

1. Fault bucket 126648864.
2. Hanging application iexplore.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, hang module
hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.
3. Hanging application rundll32.exe, version 5.1.2600.2180, hang module
hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.

And what I also noticed is that i normally get this error when I right click
on a web link and select open in new window. When I try to close the window
that is when I get the error and the system freezes. I can not say that I
have seen the CPU hit 100% when that happens. I do not believe it has as I am
able to still go to other applications and work.

Thanks,
Jeff

I ordered the SP2 disk through the mail and rebuilt the system from scratch.
I use an home built with intel motherboard, P4 1.7 MHz, Western Digital 160
Gig hard drive, 512 RAM, Norton Internet Security 2004. I started with XP
installation then SP2 then the games and misc. programs that I use. I then
installed my internet provider and saved the installation of Norton for last.
It's been a week and so far so good!

'Just discovered this one for the 1st time. Am running XP Home SP2 and get
the same hang on OUTLOOK ... everything else seems to be running fine. Saw on
the 'Windows XP Help & Support' where it may well be related to AV software
(in my case Norton).

Here's my error message:

szAppName : OUTLOOK.EXE szAppVer : 11.0.6353.0 szModName : hungapp

szModVer : 0.0.0.0 offset : 00000000

Has anybody made any progress here?

Rog,

I have recieved the same error message here as well from Outlook. I too have
Norton Anti-Virus software installed.

No additional progress...

Hey JJ,

I found some reference to a problem with Norton AV 2002 Professional ... but
hey, the link with the solution is dead!

The weird thing is that Outlook works fine on my wife's XP account on the
same PC. The .pst file is being updated with the last time I attempted to
start Outlook!

JJ, I may have found a/the solution, although I don't know it'll work for
you. I have Plaxo installed (Outlook plug-in), which I remembered I changed
online today ... I disabled Plaxo and voilà ... Outlook is up and running
again!

Rog,

I have Plaxo as well. However I have not had any issues with it. My Outlook
runs as normal at this time with it. Outlook crashes after now and then with
the error message that you provided.

What seems interesting to me, is that we both have Plaxo ... try disabling it
(don't need to deinstall) and see whether your Outlook still crashes...

Rog,

I will do that. However my Outlook crashes sho infrequeintly. Unlike my
browser locking up.
