I installed XP PRO onto my Dell Inspiron 7500 laptop as
upgrade from Win 98. On completion I found I had lost 2000
photographs saved by Olympus/Camedia and previously
contained within windows/application data. I subsequently
uninstalled XP and restored the original Win 98 but my
photos have gone. The original folder has returned but it
is now empty. I am hoping the pictures are still there
somewhere but would like any advice on how I might try to
retrieve them. Cheers

If you did not prudently perform a backup of your photos
prior to undertaking a major upgrading of your operating system,
I'm afraid your photos are nowhere to be found. You can
try the following, but there are no guarantees of success:

Search and Recover is a powerful arsenal of tools designed to instantly
recover deleted, destroyed, and damaged items from your PC. Such items
include files, folders, songs, pictures, videos, programs, critical system
components, web pages, and even e-mail messages. Search and Recover
works with any drive (hard or floppy of any size and format), and can even
recover deleted photos, songs, and more from digital cameras, MP3 players,
USB flash drives, and other digital devices.

Thanks for advice. Unfortunately, as you warned, the
photos have gone and Search and Recover failed to find
them.
Thamks for your advice, I have now learned a costly lesson
about the need to properly backup my files.
