Is there a compatability mode that can make an app thing it has got
only a certain amount of memory.

i have an app that dies on a box with 1Gb of memory but works when u
take out 512Mb and leave 512MB in . (this isn't an issue with the
memory as i have ruled that out.)

is there anything in the application compatability toolkit that can
fake the app into thinking the system only has 512MB of memory?

See if this helps: "How to Troubleshoot Program Compatibility Issues
