When I put Pictures in the -MY Pictures- Folder they all appear in the
background section of Appearence & themes. Does it happen by default & is
there a way I could delete them from the background section?

Yep.

The pictures that are showing up the DISPLAY PROPERTIES, DESKTOP can be found at these locations:

C:\Documents and Settings\user name\My Documents\My Pictures
C:\WINDOWS\Web\Wallpaper
C:\Windows\Resources\Themes
Also, check under “My Computer†/ “Shared Documents/Shared Picturesâ€. You can safely removed Shared
Pictures if it is listed.

To stop all your pictures from showing up in the list, create another folder outside the “My
Pictures†folder and save all your pictures in that folder then they won’t be listed.

Save them somewhere else.

Pete,

For the Display Properties Background tab, Windows XP fetches the image
files from the following locations:

BMP Files from %Systemroot% folder.

BMP, JPG, GIF, JPE, DIB, PNG, HTM files from the following locations:

%Systemroot%\Web\Wallpaper
%USERPROFILE%\My Documents\My Pictures (& sub-folders)
%AppData%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
%ProgramFiles%\Plus!\Themes (& sub-folders)

If you want to clear a file from that list, move the file away from the
above locations.

Yes, that should help. It's pretty much the same as what I said earlier.

The actual "Sample Pictures" folder is located here:

%allusersprofile%\Documents\My Pictures\Sample Pictures

The "undocumented" way: put them in the "Sample Pictures" folder inside My
Pictures!

Yes, but I was commenting on this:
"> For the Display Properties Background tab, Windows XP fetches the image

Sample Pictures is a "sub-folder" of My Pictures, but is EXCLUDED from the
"fetch" list. And you don't have to move that one folder, for "undocumented"
reasons.

Sample Pictures is a "sub-folder" of My Pictures

Are you sure about that statement?

What you see is only a "shortcut", not the actual folder.

Again, the actual "Sample Pictures" resides here:

%allusersprofile%\Documents\My Pictures\Sample Pictures
