appearance of desktop

my start button and icons are on the side of my monitor now. how do i get the
start button back down to the left bottom corner and icons where they
normally are?

Try clicking it near the start button and dragging it back to the bottom of
the screen.

Click and hold on a blank area of the taskbar and drag it to the bottom.

You can also right-click on it and tell the taskbar to lock, this will
prevent it from being accidently moved around.

Click on an empty area of the bar next to (not on) the start button.. Hold
the mouse button down (left) and drag the mouse to the bottom of the screen.
Release the mouse button when the taskbar is there.
