Apparent import bug - OL 2003

I had a .pst file which I imported, using the File/Import
facility, into another .pst file. In the original file
were several user-defined fields, populated with data.
After the import, those fields were not available in the
new file. In particular, the fields which had been "User-
defined fields" in this folder, now appeared, in the "All
Fields" tab of each contact, as "User-defined fields in
this item", and without data. Thereafter, I created those
fields by hand in the second file, and re-ran the import.
The contents of the user-defined fields are now visible
(in the result file) in a customized "Phone List" view of
the data, but when an individual contact is opened, the
fields appear as entries in the All Fields tab, but
without any data in them. In other words, the field list
in the "Phone list" view points to a diffenet place than
the field list in the Contact "All fields" tab, plus,
there is a problem in importing.

I would add, that changing a datum by hand in the "Phone
list" view for one of the User-defined fields does not
change it in the Contacts All Fields tab, and vice-versa.
Clearly the two views point to different data.

Exactly the same problem exists with copy/paste (if you
meant copying and pasting entire Contact records)

I don't understand why you are using importing at all if you are simply
moving items from one PST file to another. You'll never get user defined
fields that way. Why don't you just open the other PST and use Copy/Paste?

If opening the PST in the same Outlook session and using Copy to Folder...
doesn't work, then you'll need to use the other solutions I posted.
