Hi all,

I'm looking for an app to divide up my xvid movies into smaller playable
xvids without having to re-encode them. Like what i can do with with an
mpeg file in Tmpgenc.

Thanks

Pete

VirtualDub.

Use VirtualDub to split. (I assume this is an avi; if it’s ogm or mkv
use VirtualDubMOD instead)
http://www.virtualdub.org
Open the file in VirtualDub. Then go to video and choose 'direct stream
copy' and go to audio and choose 'source audio' (these two steps are
VERY important, else you will be recompressing the whole movie, which
could take days or weeks).
You will notice that the cursor on the timeline is at the very left.
Click on edit and go to 'set selection start'. Then move the cursor to
the middle of the movie (approximately) then click the arrow with the
key to the left or to the right once or twice. Hopefully it *shouldn’t*
take you too far off the center; the important thing is that you cut at
a keyframe. Now go to edit and choose 'set selection end'. Then go to
file and choose save as avi. You’ll be saving your first half (about
600-700MB, so that’ll take however long to copy depending on how fast
your hard disk is.)
Once that’s done go to edit and choose delete. It will delete the first
half (hehehe). Now to file, and save as avi and pick another name.
That’s your second half.
