I had Win98SE on my C drive, and installed XP on my D. I
have 2 API CD-rom drives (1 CD-RW and 1 read-only) and XP
doesn't like them. It will display them under My
Computer, but most other programs will not recognize
their existence. I would get errors every time I would
start such a program, referring to missing .dll files.
I've updated my API drivers for the devices, and I no
longer get error messages, yet XP continues to dislike
them. Now the only problem is that programs won't
recognize them. When I boot up in 98 they work just
fine, so there is no problem with the drives themselves
or their connections. People have told me that XP just
hates using API in general, but also that there is a way
to get it working. Can someone explain the reason XP
doesn't wanna work with them and possibly give a solution?

Do you use Roxio software with your two drives? If so,
Windows XP does not consider anything earlier than
version 6 to be compatible.

I do have Roxio software, but it's not the software I'm
having a problem with. It happens with nearly ALL
software. It's kinda annoying because in order to run a
CD I have to go into 98, make an .iso, and then use
something to mount it to a virtual drive and THEN run it.
