Problem: When I installed AOL on my coputer (XP Home edition) is does weird
things to my computer. I'm not allowed to access any programs, when I try to
see programs it just sits there & blinks real fast, not showing any programs.
I've got the program removed now but scared to try to reload incase it won't
allow XP to open. Each time I'd shut down then start up the computer it
would go through the full mode of (you didn't shut down your computer
properly) cycle. Has any one else had this problem? Since rebooting & having
to do a full system reload it works fine, but I need the AOL program as we
travel & we use this for communication on the road.
Thanks
Ramit

As you have discovered, AOL does weird things to computer Operating Systems.

If it hurts every time you poke yourself in the eye with a sharp stick
(AOL), the obvious solution is to quit poking yourself in the eye with a
sharp stick (AOL).

If you absolutely MUST poke yourself in the eye with a sharp stick (AOL),
then feel free to seek assistance from the maker of the sharp stick (AOL).

Be sure you have the latest version of AOL, which today is 9.0SE.

Get a copy of the AOL CD, available form AOL or often at PC stores. This is
more reliable than attempting to download a program.

Turn off all other programs before installing AOL. You might even want to
tun-off your virus scanner, but be very sure that you turn it back on before
allowing AOL to go on-line. Ditto for any firewall. Also, you need to be
logged-in as an administrator to successfully install programs.

I installed AOL 9.0SE with XP home SP-1, then upgraded to SP-2, both without
problems.

Good luck.

Thanks for the response but I did find my problem. The hardware
(motherboard) is faulty so the machine has been sent to the repair depot. I
took it to where I bought it, & after testing it they determined that the
motherboard is faulty. New laptop only have had it 5 months. Company is
going to fix & have it back to me in 10 days they say.
Again thanks.... Burt
