Any way of knowing who deleted a file ?

I believe that this is not possible but i just want an official answer.
win2kSp3 server, file server share directory.win2ksp3 client

a user deletes a folder from \\server\documents\Public
is their any way of finding who deleted the folder from the server ?

if auditing is set up then yes it is possible if its not then no.
 
how do i know if auditing is set-up ? if yes what i'm a suppose to look for
?
