Any reversible encryption software?

Hi. I need a program that, when given an input of characters or words,
will generate a password using a key known only to me. Then if someone
forgets their password, I can regenerate it by feeding the app their
original input.

For example, if the password is always generated from their unique
receipt number, or the sales date and time, or their name and address,
I can always regenerate their password from that. Does such a freeware
app exist? Thanks in advance.

No

Well it does....though it's most commonly used in keymakers - whereby
you type in a product number and it generates a key from that number.

Try downloading a keymaker and see if it'll generate consistent
passwords ( or numbers ) from your input data.

Here is a "webware" solution that meets your requirements:

Dynamical Passwords is a simple tool to generate, manage, and recover
forgotten passwords. It allows you to generate passwords based on the
date and your personal master password. There is no need to remember or
save all the generated passwords as far as you can remember you master
password (key) and the date, since you can reverse the process and
select the date, enter your master password, and see which passwords are
assigned to that date.

Thanks for the lead. I'm just concerned that the webware site might
not always be there when I need it.

I found a solution, though it is of questionable origins. A friend
gave me a keygen executable from a warez crack. I just input a
*username* which can be just about anything I want, and the keygen
generates a 16 digit serial number, which I can use as a password. I
tested it and it always gave the same password when I fed it the same
input.

Although the keygen was meant for nefarious purposes, it does exactly
what I want. I figure the keygen itself is innocent, though it's
intended purpose is not.

Thanks for your reply. The only problem I have with the tool is that
it only allows me to set the password based on a date. I wanted to
generate a password based on more flexible input.

The page doesn't access the site. You save the age to your desktop
(for example, using save as a single page) and double-click it to open
the page. It's a script that processes your inputs (Pass Phrase and
"site url" which could be anything, not necessarily a url, I expect),
and it generates the key.

Thanks Larry, I get it now. I've saved the page and might use this
solution.

Have a look at http://www.slavasoft.com/hashcalc/overview.htm

Could be better, password is hex.

Enjoy, Fred

I wish Maxthon could use GreaseMonkey, which enables Firefox users to
just click on the hotspot beside the password field in a web page.
That invokes the script, one enters the passphrase and the script
generates and enters the password, as in the video at the link above.
That is so cool. Regrettably, I have been unable to get Firefox tabs
to work as they should, in spite of too much time trying, so don't use
it.

KeyMaker is a unique password creator that generates a random password
based on a phrase and some additional info (optional) that you enter.
While other applications will simply generate a password on a random
basis, there is no way back if you should ever forget it. A password
generated with KeyMaker however can be recovered by running the
application again and entering the same phrase that you initially
associated with the item. Think of it as a password creator with a
backdoor that allows you to recover the complicated password you
were using.

OK, I tried the webware and it works like a charm. I'm keeping it.
Oddly though, when I used it offline in MSIE6, it would not provide a
password. However, it worked just fine in Firefox and Opera.

Thanks to all who replied. My problem has been solved and I greatly
appreciate all your efforts.

Thanks Mel, that certainly sounds like what I was looking for. But
I've decided to settle on a neat webware solution for now.

When "passwd.html" came up I too decided to use it, however since then I
discovered keymaker, which I have begun using instead. It works
perfectly for a signon to a website, because there is a place for a
Master Key, A place for a Website Address, A place for a User Id, and it
Generates a Password 4 to 16 characters long. In addition the input data
is not case sensitive, so if you re-enter the data in mixed case you
still get the correct Password.

Be Well,
Mel

But it will let you set the password length to 20+. I want 20+ plus to max
out my passphrases for attack, it gives back 14.

Are you talking about "passwd.html" or "Master Key"?

In the master key program: The master key can be any length, but the
maximum length of the generated password is 16.

KeyMaker actually, it "allows" a 22 length but only produces 16.

On the settings window you can key in any password length you want,
however if you use the little up/down arrows the password length scrolls
between 4 and 16, so that would make the minimum password length 4 and
the maximum password length 16.

If you want a longer password you could do the following:

Create a text file with the desired data:

MasterKeywww.pricelesswarehome.comChrissyCruiser

Then create a .md5 file of the text file, and use the 32-bit crc as your
password:

8872f363a02f5a77cc4d825155b1e176

your password:

3abf686f06a2f858b2e75c1248e65bf2

In this way all your passwords will be generated from known data, and if
they become lost they can be recreated from the same known data.
