mtnk said:Thanks for that Steve,
what i meant was just a pc running xp without any service pack.
yes i'm having issues..thanks..
After updating the client with sp2.I have tried a lot of the things
mentioned here and else where. Commandline options to reset etc.Uninstalling
all protocols on both and installing again.I have disabled 1394 atm.
I have cable internet with cross-over connection to other pc.Host is
connected via usb with modem.NAV06 and xp firewalss are disabled.
Should i upgrade host aswell with sp2?Dont wanna loose connection on that
but..What could be missing?
Thanks.

mtnk said:Well currently i got a
1394 Connection-disabled,bridged,
Local Area Connection,Enabled,bridged(NIC),
Local Area Connection4,Enabled,Shared(Cable-Modem),
and network bridge15,enabled.
Host works fine, properties of NIC: General: Connected, Support: all
unavailable.
properties of lac4:General:
Connected(sent/received:yes), Support: assigned by dhcp,ip address:yes,
subnet mask:255.255.255.0,gateway:yes.
properties of bridge: General:connected,
sent:some, received:none, Support: addr type: Automatic Private address,ip
address:yes , subnet mask:255.255.0.0 , gateway:none.
error msg: "couldnt renew ip address for network bridge."
What do ya say, seems something is blocking the connection..
Thanks.

mtnk said:The config in the previous post was for the host installed with modem: Client
for ms networks, file and printer sharing, tcp/ip. Bridge: Local area
connection,1394 connection.
The config for the client is: On the Client side i have: lac5 connected(nic)
Properties are: General: status-connected, sent-some, received-none.
Support: Adr type: Automatic private address, ip
address:yes, subnet mask:255.255.0.0, default gateway: none.
error msg: cant renew ip address.
I have client for ms networks enabled and internet protocol(tcp/ip) enabled:
obtain automaic all.
Thanks.
mtnk said:deleted network bridge and re-shared LAC4.
Good.
In this reply if you meant the properties of the LAC on Host then they are
different to what you have mentioned.
My ip address starts with 58.107.xxx.xxx
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
default gateway similar to i.p..
a friend, having similar problems, uninstalled sp2 and worked for him.Should
i?
Thanks.
mtnk said:Thanks for your continuous help Steve,
I havent uodated host with sp2 yet, but disabled LAC and couldn't enable it.
err msg:enabling connection, connection failed!
its LAC properties.err msg:enabling connection, connection failed!
Steve Winograd said:That looks like the properties for the Internet connection, which (if
I understand correctly) is LAC4 (Cable-Modem). Check the properties
of LAC (NIC). They should be as I showed above.

its LAC properties.
Yes, the client. Rebooted properties are at end of message.
Ok LAC (NIC) on host didnt have gateway and dns , so i put the ones you
mentioned. But then i lost connection with those settings, so i removed
gateway and dns..
Now they are:
Address type: Manually Configured
IP Address: 192.168.0.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway:
DNS Server:
And properties of Client, which is LAC5 now, which i couldn't enable
yesterday, are:
ip:192.168.0.1xx
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
default gateway: 192.168.0.1
What a waste of time isn't it?
Thanks again Steve.

M.
done, this is the lac that connects the computer's not the properties ofun-share and re-share the Internet connection.
done
That will automatically assign these values to the LAC that connects to the
client:
IP Address: 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: none
DNS Server: none
Client: If you assign TCP/IP properties manually, make all of these
settings:
IP Address: 192.168.0.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
DNS Server: 192.168.0.1 or your ISP's DNS server
mtnk said:Morning Steve,
after giving up on it for a week, here i am again, sorry steve,
re: Host: don't assign any TCP/IP properties manually! If you have,
done, this is the lac that connects the computer's not the properties of
lac4 which is the modem. Also in Advanced>WINS properties should i enable
"enable netbios over tcp/ip"?Its on default. Also I have the following in the
lac properties: File and printer sharing for MS Networks and internet
protocol(tcp/ip) ticked.
done except dns, as my isp is configured to use DHCP (Dynamic Host
Configuration
Protocol) so i do not need to set a specific DNS address - only set my
computer to automatically obtain the DNS settings.
"Please note that your internet connection will not function correctly if
you do not do this." I was told.
After doing the above changes to the client, the network icon changes and
says something like connecting or binding etc.
But nothing.
No request is even sent when i look at the two little screens.
Could it be anything basic?I'll try using the cable on diff. machine.
Thanks.
mtnk said:The cable is good steve i connected it with a notebook.
So here are the new messages:
status: limited or no connnectivity
you might not be able to access the internet or some resources. This problem
occured because the network did not assign a network address to the computer.
repair: windows could not finish rewpairing beacause following action cannot
be completed:"renewing your ip address".

Using the details you gave:
"the ip address you have entered for this network adapter is allready
assigned to another adapter 'realtek...''realtek ethernet adapter' is hidden
from the network connections folder because it is not physically in the
computer. if the same address is assigned to both adapters and they both
become active, only one of them will use this address. This may result in
incorrect system configuration.
the adapter is there, i uninstalled and installed it again, the computer
found it.
should i uninstall norton or sp2?
Thanks and sorry for the hassle.

mtnk said:Here you go mate: I noticed realtek was there about 4 times, so i uninstalled

after manually entering the values you gave me in the properties tab of the
same connection:
It shows the ip/s.m and d/g you mentioned. Status: connected. But still no

Will i be able to uninstall the other entries in safe mode?Is the NIC still

Thanks for the continued support.
