any freeware to monitor USB transfer speed

If you're up to doing your copy/move ops via a third-party util, then
maybe Total Copy will work, for showing you a speed chart:

Side note. I happened to find this incompatible with my tastes. For instance,
it is hard-coded to want its files in the windir. Also, I just didn't find
it to do anything interesting enough to warrant letting it live in that
central place on my context-menu (it is a shell extension). But those are
just my tastes. It might suit others very well.

I've not checked explicitly that it would show its speedometer for file
transfers over USB, but I do consider that to be a reasonable prelimary
assumption...
