I now use Microsoft's
security essentials

on my systems it has
worked flawlessly in
windows.

Avast seems to do a good job . I had MSE on the pc but it was
still full of odd things ... avast on boot scan finally sorted
the pc

Would you care to explain what these odd things were when using MSE? It is
important to explain here so that any rectification necessary can be done
immediately.

You'll get different opinions from different people, but here's my
view: Avast and Avira are both excellent and approximately equal.

Avast doesn't have as good a detection rate and has instances like when it falsely
detected the VBS:Zulu on various Microsoft web pages and took 2 months to correct it.
 
your outgoing email is scanned with Avast, you worthless lying troll. so go
rectify that, prune nose.
find another username. all future dates will be taken ... bwaaaa haaa haa.

MSE has worked flawlessly for me for the past few months. Prior to that I
had used AVAST! for several years and it, too worked great. However, MSE
does both the AV and the Anti- spyware jobs nicely with very small resource
usage.

I also use the Windows firewall and do Malwarebytes, SUPERAntiSpyware and
SpyBot S&D weekly late night off-line scans. Sort of a belt, suspenders and
thumbtack approach but it works well for me.

information, I use Avast and MSE. Nothing else. Does that satisfy you.

Perhaps tomorrow I will have a new username if that is OK with you. Can

a thoroughly reliable backup and restore program, the
protection of a good antivirus program is something
worth investing actual money in. For instance, if
nobody is being paid to constantly update the software
and the antivirus (and presumably spyware) databases
it uses, where is the assurance of quality and reliability?

protection of a good antivirus program is something

You're quite out of touch. Most of the free anti-virus programs have
for-cost equivalents, and both use the same detection engine and
database.
