antivirus install

After ugrading my system from ME to XP I am having difficulty getting the McAfee ActiveShield to enable. I try to reinstall form their web site and after download & install when I tri to run the program I get an error message stating the version of McAfee I'm trying to run is for a different OS. If I have recently upgraded pleas uninstall, restart and reinstall. I have run this circle multiple time with the same outcome Activeshield will not enable. Any suggestions
 
Are you downloading the version for Windows XP? If your upgrade was simply
an install over ME and not a clean install of XP, that could be your
problem. There could be stuff hanging around from ME that is making the
McAfee software think it is being installed on a machine with the wrong
operating system. Have you considered AVG Anti-Virus? The free edition is
very good, and most importantly, free!
