I HAVE A DELL DIMENSION 4600C WITH 2.73 GHZ/2.73 GHz/512MB, I did not set my computer up when we first rec'd it, so here's my question: I do I find out if there is anti-virus software loaded in the system? I looked in my prgram list and did not see anthing pertaining to that type of program. Everytime I try to call dell, I'm on hold forever. Can anyone walk me through the steps to find out where it is?
I'm new at this and to be quite frank. I feel so stupid because I do not understand all the different terms, ie; software, hardware, memory, etc. (get the picture?) I sure would appreciate it if anyone out there can assist me. Thanks,Jane

Dell typically includes a 90 day version of either McAfee or Norton.
Look in your programs list for one of the above programs.
When you first start it, you will require you to activate it and to update
it.
At the end of the 90 days, you will have to pay to keep using it.

Well, my 4600 did come with a 90 day version of McAfee.

Having said this, all programs installed on your Dell when you got it should
be accompanied by CD's you got when you purchased the system.

Further, go here: www.belarc.com

Download the (free) Belarc Advisor and run it. It will provide a great deal
about your hardware and software installed.

Dell has the option to include any software that they desire. They should
have a listing of software that is on the disk in their handbook . I would
say if you cannot find a antivirus software program listed under All
Programs , then you should download a free one such as AVG or purchase one
at retail store. Jym

Greetings --

If you don't see any entries for any sort of antivirus application
in the Start Menu (click Start > All Programs), and none is listed by
the Control Panel's (click Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove
Programs) Add/Remove programs applet, you may well not have any
antivirus application installed.

However, reputable OEMs, such as Dell, usually include at least a
trial version of some antivirus application with their PCs. One way
to find out, besides making a phone call, would be to visit Dell's web
site, create yourself a login account, and then use their Support site
to determine exactly what was included with your specific computer (by
serial number, which Dell calls a Service Tag) when it left the
factory.

I did'nt realize it was only "temp", it have been well over 90 days since I've had my computer, not knowing I had no protection, Thanks, you've been very helpful!
