Another XP Home File/Print sharing problem

Reading this forum it seems that XP Home is not as good at sharing file and
print as it says on the box. Anyway after trying everything here and
spending hours on this problem let me explain my pain:

W98 machine and XP Home machine sharing a DSL router.
Both access web/email fine
Printer is attached to the XP machine.
Want to share the files and printer with the W98 machine (other way around
works fine by the way)

Firewalls are not installed and XP firewall is disabled.

The router is allocating the IP address to each PC
The Workgroup name is the same for both machines and each machine has a
separate name
Each PC can see it's own shared folders in My Network Places

Netbios over TCP/IP is enabled in both TCP/IP setups

Both machines see each other and the shared folders and printer but when you
try to access you get the old error:

"Computer: is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this
resource ...".

I have followed all the advice and tutorials I can find listed on this forum
but still get the error.

Thanks for any help.
Rgds
Mike

As I understand it, you need XP Pro to share anything -
that's one of the reasons it costs an extra hunderd
bucks. I have a network running several Windows flavors
(XP Pro, home, NT 4, Win-98) and Linux. Everybody can
see the Linux and XP Pro boxes. Haven't tried to set any
network stuff up on the 98 machine as I almost never use
it. The NT box would share things but since I'm not a
glutton for punishment I haven't set it up to share.

No, that's not right. XP Home Edition can share files and printers on
a peer-to-peer a network just as well as XP Pro can.

But not in my case!
Steve - I've followed all the links you posted on previous similar topics
without any luck.
Do you phone support? Or know someone who can for a reasonable cost? (like a
beer or two? venue is Bristol, UK)

Did you ever sort this? Because we installed XP on my computer last week and now the W98 PC can't share my printer, so we have the same problem.
