When I click on the 'blank new file" toolbar button, I get a page that
resemble a sheet on notebook paper with evenly spaced lines. I have
searched for about an hour and I can't figure out how to return my "dot.com"
file back to a blank page.

Billybob,

Sounds like you may have gridlines turned.

Toolbars>Drawing.

Click the Draw menu button and then click grid. Uncheck display gridlines
on screen.

Thanks, guys! You both were exactly right. I don't remember clicking it on
for any reason, but I must have. I appreciate your responses.

Can anyone shed any light on the previous post concerning the "Drawing
Canvas"? I obviously just don't know how to use it. I thought you used it
like you use the "Text Box". I want to put it in manually; not
automatically. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Glad to help. :-)

You may have not turned it on. There's some speculation that a
template or add-in makes this change and since it is a Word
preference, rather than a document preference, it stays turned on.

The Drawing Canvas isn't exactly like a text box, but you can insert
one manually by going to Insert/Picture/New Drawing.
