The last software I installed was AVAST anti virus
(local client). Most AV programs have a proxy service in
them and can cause problems if these are written to issue
calls that are not recognized by the kernel.

What?!

Is this supposed to be a response to some thread/post you started someplace
and not a brand new posting?

Looking at the Microsoft bug error code advice suggests this is a
hardware and not software problem. It is either caused by new hardware
added before the error started or failing hardware. Have you recently
installed new hardware?

Hope this helps.

Extra answer to Gerry - Not included in other post. Yes,
It's a SoundBlaster X-fi xtreme audio 'Sound card'. Like the
earlier post, I can say I don't believe that the new card is
the problem, however, I believe you are on track when you
say It could be a failing card (out of the older ones) or a
temporary failure of the HDD controller on board.

Thanks for the driver installer. I'm sure I already have this one.
On system , the drivers are listed as a date of October 11,
2006. The update was made as a part of the install process 3
or 4 days ago. How did the newest driver installer get bypassed?
