Anonym.OS LiveCD

"kaos.theory's Anonym.OS LiveCD is a bootable live cd based on OpenBSD
that provides a hardened operating environment whereby all ingress traffic
is denied and all egress traffic is automatically and transparently
encrypted and/or anonymized."

http://theory.kaos.to/home.html

http://sourceforge.net/projects/anonym-os/

"Download via Sourceforge or LinuxTracker [UPDATE: ISO IS FINALLY STARTING
TO PROPAGATE ACROSS SOURCEFORGE MIRRORS! ALSO, A TORRENT IS NOW AVAILABLE
AT LINUXTRACKER.ORG, GRAB IT NOW!]

Like sand through the hourglass, so are the vestiges of our privacy. From
increased governmental surveilance to corporate content restrictions and
data brokers, what you do, where you go, and who you talk to is of more
interest to more people every day.

Anonym.OS is an OpenBSD 3.8 Live CD with strong tools for anonymizing and
encrypting connections. Standard network applications are provided and
configured to take advantage of the tor onion routing network.

Anonym.OS was first suggested by kaos.theory at Interzone 4 in Atlanta,
March of 2005. Nearly a year and a lot of marathon coding sessions later,
it's a reality and was released by elmore, fade, arcon, dr.kaos, digunix,
atlas and beth of kaos.theory at Shmoocon 2006."

I think it's being slashdotted at the moment. The info is appearing on
dozens of blogs so a lot of the servers are probably overloaded.

Rofl, I can't even get it via torrent .... :o\ (177 peers and the DL speed
has gotten to a max of 3K for around 4-5 seconds, then goes back to 0K)

Guess I'll have to try it again later ....

Downloaded, burnt and stuck into the machine adn either this thing has
seriously high sys req's (couldn't find mention of them), or it doesn't work
properly.

The "main" part of the OS loaded fantastically quickly and getting into it
required my answering a few simple Q's. However, once "into it", I noticed 3
icons on the desktop - browser, e-mail and IM. Double clicked bowser -
nothing happened..... double clicked it again and went for a coffee, it
eventually loaded after around 15 mins .... :o\ (getting irritated, I
decided it was time to re-start the system in Windows ... alas Anonym.OS had
other ideas. No visible way to shutdown the system, and the reset button on
the system no longer worked (works fine in Windows ... and Ubuntu), so was
forced to use the power button :o(

Should be fine on DVD (don't have a DVD burner so can't test). However, you
can burn it using the "Burn ISO image" option of the last freeware version
of DeepBurner....

Filename: DeepBurner1_1_1_128.exe
Version: 1.1.1.128
Size: 2.72MB

Download: http://mysteryfcm.co.uk/Software/?f=Multimedia

DD URL: http://mysteryfcm.co.uk/Software/Multimedia/DeepBurner1_1_1_128.exe

When burning an ISO that is to be used either as a boot CD, or a regular CD,
you MUST ensure you DO NOT burn it as a regular "DATA" CD, as that will
simply burn the ISO to CD *as an ISO file*, which is most likely what has
happened in this case.

I used ImgBurn and it worked just fine.

Umm... This might be obvious, but just leave the torrent open and let it
do it's thing?

I'm currently pulling at 745KB/s, and uploading at 350KB/s (capped at
80Mb/s, but from the looks of my list I've got a ton of dialup users
connected -- I'll open up more slots and see how it goes)

Even doing that I would expect better speeds than 3K! ... lol. No matter, I
finally downloaded it via HTTP anyway ;o)
