How can I get rid of this Windows Messenger update notice that appears
whenever my computer reboots? I have searched in Microsoft and Messenger
pages, but all I can find are instructions on how to suppress Messenger,
which I have already done. I use Outlook Express, so only suppressed
Messenger and did not remove it. I also use Norton AV and firewall. Now,
just starting about a week ago, I am getting these update messages but can't
find where to stop them.

The message reads: "A newer version is available. You must install the newer
version in order to continue. Would you like to do this now?
Yes ?? No ?? OK "

Thanks for your help. Fleur

Hi,

Perform the following steps to resolve the issue.

1. Click Start->Control Panel
2. Click Performance and Maintenance
3. Click Administrative Tools
4. Double click Services
5. Scroll down and highlight "Messenger"
6. Right-click the highlighted line and choose Properties.
7. Click the STOP button.
8. Select Manual in the Startup Type scroll bar
9. Click OK

Thank you for the reply. I followed your directions, but the "Stop" option
was grayed out on my screen. I reset the Startup Type which was marked as
"disabled" to "manual" which then allowed the grayed out area to become
clear, but the Service Status was already marked as "Stopped."

None of this helped. Whenever Outlook Express starts, this annoying Windows
Messenger update message is still occurring. Any other ideas?

Thanks, Fleur.

start --> run --> type this : RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection
%windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
