I regularly am getting a screen pop-up that
reads "Reminder--Day and Date--" followed by "This page
cannoy be displayed, pl try the following", and then some
directions. I've tried, but found no way to permanently
delete the pop-up. Thru ctrl/alt/del I can bring up Win
Task Mgr where pop-up title is listed. Pressing "End
Task" removes title, also the pop-up from screen, but it
reappears again on screen in few minutes. HOW CAN I
DELETE? Thanks. (e-mail address removed)

Hi,

Try downloading and running the program, Spybot Search & Destroy
(http://www.safer-networking.org/) and AdAware
(http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/). These programs will scan for
any spyware and adware that may be installed in your system and take care of
it. If the popup isn't gone after running through them, try the following:

Check for any files launching on startup by going to START > PROGRAMS >
STARTUP. If you see anything in there that you don't know what it is or
don't need it starting right away, right-click on it and select DELETE.

Also, if you're feeling adventurous you can go into the registry (START >
RUN > REGEDIT) and go to the following location in it:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

You will then see a list of all programs that run when windows starts, go
through and look for ones that could be causing the popup. Then you can
delete the key (you may wish to export it beforehand incase you need to
restore it). Also you can goto START > RUN > MSCONFIG and then click on the
Startup tab and check for the cause there.

Greetings --

Sounds like a remnant of some shareware or evaluation software
that you tried and subsequently removed. Since you can use Task
Manager to close it, you know the application's name. Simply use
MSConfig to show you where the command starting this program is
originating, so that you can permanently eliminate the source of your
irritation. Look in the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start
Menu\Programs\Start Up and C:\Documents and Settings\username\Start
Menu\Programs\Start Up folders, and in the system registry, primarily
in the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run keys.
