I keep receiving a message from the taskbar telling me
that a network connection is unplugged.

Unchecking the box re a taskbar icon in the properties
box of localarea connection gets rid of the icon but not
the messages. Does anyone know how to get rid of these
annoying messages?

If you're not using DSL, and not on a Network, and it's a newer system that
came with a Network Adapter: Right click the My Computer desktop icon, left
click Properties, click the Hardware tab, click the Device Manager button,
click the + to the left of : Network Adapters (to expand), select the
installed Network Adapter under that heading, right click it, then left
click Disable. That should put a red X through the icon for that hardware,
and won't load the driver when you boot into Windows XP. The reboot your
system. Then Windows XP won't be looking for a Network Connection when it
boots, and the message should be gone. Should you, in the future want DSL,
or to Network, you can go back to that Network Adapter entry in Device
Manager, right click it, and left click Enable.
