Drew

I have my screen resolution set at 640x480 since this is much easier on my
eyes. Every time I boot up, I get a large balloon suggesting that I change
the resolution to something more compatible. I have to close the balloon
each time.

How can I stop this balloon from appearing at boot up?

Thanks

Drew

Hi, Drew. Do you have an LCD monitor? If this message appears at boot
up, before XP is loaded, the message is coming from the monitor and you
can push one of the buttons on the monitor to disable it. Otherwise,
please post back and clarify when you are seeing the message.

Thanks for the response Malke -

I have a crt monitor. The message comes up on the desktop after xp has
loaded. It points to a button in the right end of the taskbar. When I
close the balloon by clicking on its "x", the button goes away.

You can disable it (and all balloon tips) with TweakUI in the XP Power Toys.

Hey Drew

You say you use 640x480 because its easier on your eyes. Maybe you should try switching the resolution of your monitor a little higher (most modern monitors accept 1024x768 easily) and switch to larger screen fonts (right-click on desktop, "properties", tab "appearence", dropdown-list "font-size" (the one at the bottom, I only have a german xp here, so I can't tell exactly whats written there), switch this field to "large" or "extra large"

This will make all windows-words appear bigger and still very readable, while much more information fits on your monitor (e.g. you can see more of an image you look at)

And the popup will not appear also ;-

Hope this will improve your everyday work
