Announcement messages to clients

All,

I'm trying to find a server/client app that will allow me to send
"announcement" messages from a server to multiple clients. I can't use
"net send" as for some reason a lot of my clients in the Domain don't
get listed in the network browser and therefore don't recieve the
broadcast message. Its a DNS/IP thing I'm sure but can't figure out what.

Ideally the tool should:

- Give messages via pop-eye type notifications
- Be near-instantaneous
- Be one way (server-> client) and not client<->client or client>server
- Be something I can install and configure via login or msi scripts
- Maybe have a linux/unix port version
- (be free/GPL)

I'd expect a tool like this would have to "report in" when it got
started to notify the server of its IP, and then listen on port "x" for
a message.

Like I said, I tried "net send", with Realpop which would of been ideal
if the messages had of been recieved by the clients.

If anyone knows of a tool that comes close, please post back.

Cheers,

Adrian

Further to the earlier reply I tried that, works on XP Pro and 2003 okay but
it's not clear yet how you could set up the security aspects you mentioned,
if at all.

It does not seem to rely on Winpopup, which sadly most do, but I reckon you
may be in for a trial finding something perfect. Might be worth contacting
the authors to see if there's any developments headed in your specific
direction.

Charlie,

Thanks for the info - I took a look but they don't look like they do
what i want, more for P2P talking than "announcements".
