while cleaning my registry i got a message that said something like '
annonymous files were found on your computer, to proceed please put in your
windows disc'. what are annonymous files and are they safe to delete?

This doesn't sound good at all. Why were you "cleaning my registry" and
what were you attempting to do it with? Was the something wrong with the
PC?

i was using a 'safe' disc that i purchased from worldstart.com. it's called
xp boost by allume systems. it was actually a friend of mine that was using
the disc, i have used the disk several times with no problems. what should i
do now? throw it away? it was just scanning her registry, hadn't performed
any actions nor did she. i can't find any info on annonymous files anywhere,
even on this site.

i also purchased a digital imaging disc from worldstart, it is also an allume
product. it's called personal image manager express. i used it several times
without problems. i tried starting the program one day and i got ' has
encountered an error.........'. i uninstalled, reinstalled, ran several
different reg. cleaners, tried every compatible option available, reg. edit,
uninstall, install about 20 times and i still get encounter error and had to
close message. any suggestiong as to why and is there any way i can install
using a different method? thanks, bob. brenda
xp pro w/o srvc. pk. 2

For one thing, using a registry cleaner, unless you know what you are
doing, can cause more harm than good. They are not needed.

I realize the registry is best left untouched, that's why I don't usually
disturb it. I still don't know what annonymous files are and as we were just
'scanning' and not acutally doing or actually 'did' anything it's obvious to
me that she has a problem in the first place. All I wanted to know is what
that problem might be and I really would like to know what annn. files are.
Also any suggestions concerning my second post of installing the imaging
software. The reg. cleaner only deletes invalid keys and if there is anything
that I am remotely unfamiliar with then I take no chances. I am totally
curious about those files, what they are, what they do. My guess is that xp
creates them if they are not available but it's just a guess, so could
someone please tell me something. anything at this point.

I would say that your money was wasted, and you should leave the
registry alone. No idea as to what this "cleaner" has decided comprises
an "anonymous" file. So leave well enough alone.

Well, I guess that's that. Could anyone at least try answering my other
question regarding the digital software installation problem that i'm having.
Thanks for your time. Brenda

Have you contacted the vendor of the software or checked for an
installation troubleshooter at their website?
