Due to the incredible amount of email we have received about our
discontinuing the freeware version of Tomahawk, we have decided to
once again release a 'Lite' version of Tomahawk Gold. Naturally, it
has fewer features than the full version and is restricted to Personal
Use only, but we do have to support our families. We knew that it had
acquired a certain following in its niche market, but had no idea of
the number of people that relied on its use. Our sincere apologies to
our loyal users. You can download the new "Lite' version from our web
page at www.nativewinds.montana.com/software/tomahawk.html
(Download link near the bottom of the page)

It does write to the registry, but only stores the current user
preferences there. It is still, and always has been 'portable'.

Any comments about this release are welcome.

No comments about the release but could you please refrain from using
red text on a black background. It is extremely difficult to read for
those who, like me, are colourblind.

Any chance to see a chart of the differences between Gold and
Gold-Lite?

Thanks, Alan

Did you view his headers?

Please explain to me; How the heck did he manage to post red text on a
black background?

All I saw was black text on a white backgound in my reader.

I think he was talking about Tomahawk's website.

I think he was talking about Tomahawk's website.

Oh, I see what he means then, except the text at the Tomahawk website
is mostly white on black with some green and blue text added. But being
colour-blind wouldn't help I guess (green or blue might look like red
to him).

A tip for the OP. You can turn off colours specified by a web page
design and use your own colour scheme at all times. It'll be in your
web browser's preferences.

For me, using Mozilla, its under "Peferences, Appearance, Colors", then
check "Use my chosen colors, ignoring the color and bagkground images
specified".

You, obviously, did not look at the referenced site.

That last is certainly a possibility. It is still difficult to read.

I was asking for some consideration by the OP and, by extension, other
web designers to consider that ten percent of males are colourblind in
some form or another and to design their colour schemes accordingly. I
should not need to alter my browser settings to read one small page.
In fact I am more likely to say "Stuff it!" and go somewhere else.

You can do whatever you want, just don't try to teach your grandmother
how to suck eggs.

*Some* way to tell what features the Liteware app has is sorely needed.
The description as it stands is useless. . .

Telling people what the differences are is SOP for Liteware apps. Not
necessarily with a chart though, some authors use asterisks and
footnotes, or include a paragraph noting which feature are not included,
etc. etc. . . .

There are literally thousands of web pages that would not meet with
your needs. Turning off those those options in your browser would not
be "altering your browser settings to read one small page" it would
have an immediate effect "across the board"... Besides, turning off
those options actually speeds up page downloads and would render
previously unreadable pages, readable.

It was only a suggestion, I wasn't trying to impose or "teach".

While that is true it often spoils the effects the web designer was
trying to create. If I want to speed up loading I can also refuse
images from all sources and render in a fixed pitch font.

A little consideration for the needs of other people is always
appreciated.

Neither was I.

If you have the "old" free Tomahawk PDF + version 2.7.2, you would be
making a mistake in dumping it for Tomahawk Gold Lite.

David, I think it's a losing battle trying to get webmasters to develop
sites that are easy on the eye. I'm not color blind, but I find a LOT of
sites hard to read. But I found a *great* extension for Firefox (Read
Easily), which allows you to instantaneously (with the click of a button)
render a site in the colors of your choosing. I've been searching for
YEARS for a progy like that, and it really works! It's similar to a
capability in Opera.

Granted, it doesn't make people sensitive to the issue of poor color
rendering, or people with color-blindness, but it's an awesome solution!

You are absolutely correct sir and we will work to remedy the
situation.

You are right but if some do take the hint then life becomes easier
for everyone.

What is the name of the extension, please. I'm using SeaMonkey and
there may be a version that will suit.
