New Voter

Just a question, which votes actually elect the next President? Is is the
popular vote of the citizens, or is it the Electoral Colledge ? Who is this
E.C. anyway?

Perhaps I should just join the local Masonic Lodge.

The votes that actually elect the president are the ones that are cast. If
you don't vote then they don't count. Just FYI. The Electoral College
casts the votes. That assumes they haven't been drinking and partying all
week. You know, they could actually vote for the wrong person. What if
they vote for Ron Paul? Could be a disaster for the country.

Just FYI

Doesn't your country have a Senate and or Congress that can thwart the power
of the President?

This link gives a good explanation of the Electoral College and how the
electors are chosen: http://www.thisnation.com/electoral.html

Good question. The Democrats have been the majority in the Senate and House
for almost 4 years and they haven't been able to thwart President Bush.
It's not like they haven't tried.

The Democrats HAVE NOT been in control of Congress for the last four
years!!!!

Much better than it was at the end of Clinton's term.

I can't imagine to what you are referring to, but the US was not in an
illegal war, the whole international community didn't absolutely despise
the US, gas wasn't almost $4 per gallon, etc.

The Dems haven't been a 2/3's majority which is why Bush gets away with
his idiotic policies.

so much for your credibility...

And thanks to Bush and his misadventures in the Middle East, he's been able
to push up the price of oil, filling the pockets of his friends in Saudi
Arabia and Exxon.

Cheers.

Not to mention Canadians :-) It also helped Bolivia and Venezuela who
are on the brink of attacking Colombia to fulfill Chavez' dream of being
the next Simon Bolivar whose dream was to unite Ecuador, Bolivia,
Colombia and Venezuela and call it El Gran Colombia, although I am sure
Chavez will come up with another name.
