I've been working on a problem with a customer that is very strange.
Some of their WindowsXP SP1 computers will not allow them to install
and use an ActiveX control. It matters not what their settings are or
the security level of the account they login with. In addition there
are several other strange issues that led me to believe there's
something not right about the browser on several of the machines.
After much searching we noticed the version number of IE is
6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.030422-1633CO on all the machines that are acting
strange. Notice the CO on the end. There's no mention of that
revision on Microsoft's site and there are only 5 references to it in
usenet (via google groups). Can anyone say for certain if this is a
real version number? Is this a branded or IEAK modified version? Is
there something that can explain the version number? My only guess
right now is that several of the machines have been altered (trojan,
root, upset employee) but I'm going to have an uphill battle proving
that. Sans better advice I think our first course will be to
reinstall the OS and see if the problem persist. Any advice on how to
check this one out? If there's anything I can check and provide more
information on I'm happy to do it.
Thanks,
Mike
