An "empty" full mailbox

Long story short- lightning.

Now my inbox continues to count e-mails (I have since redirected them to
another folder) but the inbox simply claims that there is no new mail within
despite it's own new mail counter showing to the contrary. Any ideas on how
to get that mail back? I've tried a system restore and I can't find a setting
I think applicable. Thanks.

Try the following key combo while viewing your inbox:

Left Alt, V, V, G

Do you see those hidden messages now?
 
No it didn't make a difference. All views are set to show all, which is why
I'm so confusticated by the situation.

I want you to have 'show all messages', but I want you to disable 'Group
messages by conversation'.
