Amd athlon 64 3000+ or P4 2.8 gig

I'd probably lean towards the AMD chip, it does have 64 bit technology, and it probably will outperform a P4 2.8 in most games. Its probably about £10 cheaper than the P4 aswell ;).So the AMD chip gets my vote.

i can tell you that the 2.8GHz P4 will come out a fair bit better than the 32big Athlon 3200+ Barton.

Not sure about the 64 bit though. 64 bit wont give you any advantage in todays apps though... no software supports it yet!

Ok thanx, ... Im ok on linux so i would benifit from 64bit.. However ive been hearing that socket 754 chips r gonna be outdated really quickly?

That's a rather sweeping statement. Got any links to comparison tests? ;)

That's a possibility isn't it? Now the Socket 939 chips are available and a choice of good motherboards, it's likely they'll become dominant. The Gigabyte GA-K8NSX looks like a good motherboard for this chip. The board costs £130.00 but the price of the 939 CPU's!

The 3200 version is around £265.00. Good grief.

Lemme see, that's almost £400.00 for just a board and CPU.

Still, new technology is always more expensive, I remember the Bartons costing an arm and a leg, but they seem quite reasonably priced now.
