Am unable to do "save as"

When I attempt to do a any type of "save as" to a file, the drop down box
does't drop down, and the computer freezes up. I have even uninstalled/
reinstalled my word processing software, but no change. Please help.
 
The update to the update came out today and fixed all the problems I was
having with my computer. Thanks for the head-up.
 
My problem is slightly different and exists in Word and Excel (I suspect it
exists in other Office apps but haven't tried it). When I attempt to do a
"save as", the drop down box opens and, if I wish to save directly into My
Documents, the "save as" works ok but if I click on any folder within My
Documents, the application locks up and I have to exit the application. I
can also save directly to the Desktop so my work around has been to save to
My Documents or the Desktop then "drag and drop" to the desired folder but
this is getting "old". Please help.
