Hi,
I tried setting up the alternate IP config in the LAN connection and it
worked fine.
Bit it broke the wireless connection;
So the user travelled and went to an offsite location that uses statics. So
the alternate I setup worked fine but when they tried to connect to a
wireless network it wouldn't work.
I notice in the alternate config you can only use certain IP's, is that why
the wireless broke, but I only setup the alternate in the LAN.

You can use whatever ip address you want to with Alternate Configuration, but
you can only setup ONE single address.

If you have more than one LAN with no DHCP to work around, use a configuration
manager.

So basically this states that the alternate config by default is using DHCP,
but you can manually override that and enter all static info.
So a user travels from site a which uses dhcp to site b which doesn't. I
enter the alternate config for them which will get them onto the network at
site b.
They get on the network
However, when going to use a wireless network they have issues.

The only change was the alternate config, I take that out and all is well
again with wireless but then I have the issue of them travelling and
therefore need to give them elevated privileges to change network settings.

The Alternate Configuation, by default, uses APIPA, which is an internal DHCP
server that generates settings to connect only computers on the LAN.

And yes, if your users need to use one of the settings managers they have to
have the ability to change the settings. As if they wish to move from domain to
domain, they have to have a domain administrator at each site to help them.

OK, so why does the wireless connection break if you setup an alternate
config using static info on the lan adapter?
Wireless should still just use DHCP so when the person hits the airport or a
hotel it should still work.

Your non-technical term "break" could have several interpretations. Off the top
of my head, I'd look at the metrics.

Maybe looking at "ipconfig /all" from the computer, comparing wired and wireless
states, will give us a clue. Read this article, and linked articles, and follow
instructions precisely:
