I know this is not PC, but does anyone know of a tool that helps
generate alt text for image accessibility in Web pages?

Do you mean deciding what the text should say, or generating the
actual text after you've made the decision?

I did find A-Prompt (http://aprompt.snow.utoronto.ca/), which works
pretty well, but is still more manual labor than I was hoping.

Once you've typed in the alternate text (software can't do that for
you - unless you want to use speech-to-text software and "talk" it
in), there's not all that much "manual labor" left.

Thanks for the link to A-Prompt. I'm sure It'll come in handy as an
addition to my web page validation arsenal.

Could you describe exactly how you'd like your alt text software to do
the matching of the alt text to each image? How exactly do you expect
any program to know what you want to substitute for the alt text? No
matter what you do you'll have to let the program know which alt text
to match to each image, and that will require some manual labor on
your part.

Without knowing more, the best way to match alt text to an image
within an html file is to use a search and replace app with batch
processing capability, such as InfoRapid Search & Replace. But again,
setting up the batch file will require some manual labor.

Thanks for the input. I'm doing the search and replace routine with
Front Page which is working pretty well but I'm supplementing it with
A-Prompt which is both simple and incredibly useful for free app.

I have another question. A-Prompt prompts you to "linearize" your
tables. This also supposed to help with accessibility issues. Anyone
know of a free table linearizer or the best one, if there are several?
