Is this true? ALT+PrintScreen does not appear to work in
Windows XP. I cannot find any information about this
issue in the KB. Does anybody know what the deal is? Did
MS leave out something that's been in every version of
windows I can remember?

anybody...? buehler...?

Works fine. The test you can run is to Alt-PrtScrn a window, then paste
into WordPad.

If it deosn't work, ensure you have actually pressed the Alt-PrtScrn. On
some computers it's buried with special shift or function keys needed.
Also try PrtScrn on it's own just to test the button. Maybe keyboard
failed?

It works for me: It copies the current Active Window, as a bit map, into
the Clipboard so you can then paste it into any graphics program.

Why hasn't anybody devised a way to print the BIOS settings, either to a
pinter or to a file, so that if you have to change/add a drive or update the
BIOS you can be sure of knowing what the settings were. Copying them by hand
is tedious work and errors are likely.

Or is there some way to do this and I'm just too dim-witted to have figured
it out?

Agreed.

Actually, PrtScr copies an image of the current screen. Alt+PrtScr
copies the image of the current active window. A small, but important
difference.

*If* you have a non-WinPrinter that's connected to a parallel
port, you can print it directly with PrintScrn. But, depending on
what kind of printer you have) you may have to press the
form-feed (or equivalent) key on the printer after printing each
screen.

And IIRC - thinking back 15 years - it had to be an IBM compatible
printer at that - it would not work with an Epson dot matrix one.

But the point is outside XP anyway. When you are at BIOS screens you
are in the initial setup. not any operating system
