HELP! My favorites have gotten out of control and I need
to find a way to alphabetize them without having to
reinstall Windows XP. I read old posts that say to
just "right click" in there and then select "sort by
name", but my version doesn't give me that option!! (I've
tried over and over, but that is not one of the options
given.) What can I do?

Open Favorites from the menu item, not the toolbar icon. Then right click
any of them and choose Sort by Name.

If you want them to automatically alpha-sort even as new entries are added,
you need a registry edit. Navigate to:

HKEY CURRENT USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Menu
Order\Favorites

and delete the value named 'Order'. Also delete this value for any
subfolders. Then, with the favorite key highlited, click on Edit >
Permissions and deny 'Full Access' to Administrators, yourself, etc. This
will prevent the key from being automatically recreated.

Please try again.

Use the menu option Favorites and when a favorite flies out,
rightclick on it and select "Sort by name"
Don't use the Favorites panel. It must be the menu option or you may
also do it from Start-Favorites
