Allowing Non Admin users to install pinters locally

Hi,

I have 1600 XP Pro Sp 1 laptops that connect to my network wirelessly.
These laptops will be used in and out of school. Students and Staff will
have resources both in school and at home. What I need is a way to allow
them to install a local printer with out granting them Administrative rights.
The problem with creating a Pinter Installer user and giving them Admin
rights is that once they have the Admin rights they can export our encryption
keys for the wireless in plain text. This is a MAJOR Security breach to us!
I have been scouring the web for any suggestions that I might find. Has any
one else already resolved this problem?

Thanks,

Doug

I presume that your school district has provided 1600
students and staff with WiFi enabled laptops and you want
them to be able to install a printer at home, since they can
print at school on the school network printer.

First, update to SP2, staying on SP1 is a security breach.
Clean the computers of spyware, run disk cleanup before
installing SP2.

It appears that your best, perhaps only option would be to
create a short list of supported local printers and a
generic printer and do a network install when the laptops
log-on your network.
