Hello there, hope you can help!!!!

the problem is that i have an access database which i
share between 10 computers. This was not a problem on the
last computer but i have now swapped it another one and
the network will only allow me to connect 4 computers to
mine.

The way im doing it is map networking my main computers c
drive and putting it as the F drive. The 4 computers i
have connected now work fine but i need to connect the
others. how do i connect more computers to the main one.

Regards

David

Hi, David -

XP Home Edition has a hard limit of five simultaneous
incoming connections. Best thing to do would be to
upgrade the machine to XP Professional - which has a
limit of ten incoming connections.

Hope this helps -

Or, for you fans of cheapness, downgrade to W9x which has no
such limit.

I've found that Windows XP Pro will NOT allow 10
computers to connect, but only allow 10 incoming
connections as Allan points out. This means that if one
computer has 3 file locks on the server, then only 7 more
computers can connect with only 1 file lock each. If 4
computers have 3 file locks each, then only 3 computers
will connect (9 total incoming connections) and the
fourth one will be unable to connect to the server at
all...regardless of using different shares.

Is there any way around this issue?
